Founded in 2007, the mission of Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase, or NAPS, is to encourage new plays by novice and seasoned playwrights, to provide acting and directing opportunities for new and experienced dramatists, and to celebrate new works in partnership with the Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival.

At a Glance:

Late-Summer Playwriting Contest

• • annual contest of 10-minute plays, judged anonymously by a panel of directors each year

  • the playwriting contest will open August 1, 2026 and close October 1, 2026

Flagstaff Fall Performance

• • staged dramatic readings of the winning plays at the Beaver Street Theatre in downtown Flagstaff

  • the 2026 Showcase is scheduled for November 21, 2026

• • writing workshops and other literary and theater partnerships throughout the year
